Cuteness and violence can exist together. Bub and Bob’s existence within Bubble Bobble completely validate this. Scores upon scores of enemies lost their lives when Bub and Bob invade their land. Also, Bubble Bobble holds many, many secrets. Seriously. You can’t even see the final ending until you enter a code at the arcade.
Still, this being a Taito game, the writing and story are just deliciously absurd and wonderful. Who would’ve ever known that the parents were captured as well? Who are their parents?! And are they the parents of…all of them? Just Bub? Just Bob? Why do dead enemies turn into a balanced breakfast? It gets wild, people.
